Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands to open “De Nieuwe Liefde”

Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands will be opening “De Nieuwe Liefde” (The New Love) in Amsterdam on Friday the 11th of February. Prince Friso of Orange-Nassau and Princess Mabel will also attend this event. De Nieuwe Liefde is initiated by poet and theologist Huub Oosterhuis and will be:

A center for study, reflection and debate

A space for philosophy of life and religion

A podium for poetry, music and theater

On February 14th De Nieuwe Liefde will start its public program, which consists of lectures, debates, presentations, concerts, film, poetry and theatre.

Huub Oosterhuis: “We aim to create a house where souls connect, a place where we give new meanings to the word ‘civilisation’ in these times of chaos.”

The monumental building on Da Costakade 102 in Amsterdam was originally a wine warehouse, and later became a Catholic parish house called De Liefde (‘The Love’). In 2010 it was completely rebuilt by Wiel Arets Architects and now comprises of a main hall seating 230 visitors, a conference room for 60 guests and a choir space for 50. It also has a library, a foyer and a separate café-restaurant.

At this moment, De Nieuwe Liefde programs and ticket information is only available in Dutch.
